Braving the Outdoors in SummerTime Heat

With the exception of inclement weather, there is no reason to avoid going outdoors due to weather. Just like there are jackets, gloves, and scarfs, to offset cold temperatures in the Winter, there are also tricks and tools to keep cool in the Summer. Unless you are an indoor person, who does not like venturing outdoors, regardless of the season, read on.

To beat the heat in the Summer, obviously it is best to limit long and/or extraneous activities to the early morning (before 10 am or 11 am) or in the evening (after 6pm). Unless you love the heat and want to purposely add the element of heat to your workout regiment, best to save those jogs, longs walks, and exercises for the morning or evening. If you find that the only time you can partake in exercise, and other physical activities, is during the hottest times of day, limit the time and exertion levels of the activities. Heat related mishaps won’t do anyone any good.

During the summer months, it is wise to make the following part of your regular summertime regiment for the outdoors, particularly when the heat is on:
  • Sunscreen-Everyone should apply this when venturing outdoors, particularly in the summer and for extended times, regardless of complexion.
  • Sunglasses-Helpful particularly if your eyes are sensitive to the light. They also help minimize sun related aging of the skin around the eyes.
  • Brimmed hat-Provides shame some and helps keep the head cooler.
  • Cold water-A no brainer. Continued sips from a water bottle, during prolonged or extended outdoor activities, keeps one cool and hydrated.
